Each November, an entire neighborhood in East Los Angeles gathers for one of the biggest high school football rivalries in the nation. For 80 years, Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools have been pitted against one another in this showdown known as “The Classic.” Though the players and coaches are adversaries on the field, they are all proud members of one community: East LA, which is home to one of the largest Latino immigrant populations in the United States.
Award-winning writer and editor Billy McMillin makes his directorial debut with The Classic, which intimately explores the hopes and struggles of Hispanic-American boys and men in Los Angeles yearning to leave a legacy on the field and off.
